The Long Night
The night had no edges. It stretched on and on, wrapped in velvet darkness. The stars glittered like they had nowhere else to be. Pip the little fox shifted beside the den. His eyes were wide, and his ears were twitching at every distant sound. He had never known a night that refused to end.
Bram noticed and smiled softly. He drew Pip closer with one warm, heavy paw and began to speak in a low, gentle rumble. He told a story about a sun that once got lost and asked the stars to watch over the world while it found its way back. The stars agreed, shining brighter each night so no one would feel alone.
As the story flowed, Pip's breathing slowed. The cold felt less sharp, the darkness less strange. Bram's voice rose and fell like calm waves beneath the ice, steady and sure.
By the time the tale ended, Pip was asleep, dreaming of glowing skies and patient stars. Above them, the Arctic night kept its long watch, but inside the den, everything was peaceful and warm.
